NILLUMBIK SHIRE, VIC. — Nillumbik residents will benefit from improvements to two local parks after community votes helped secure a combined $275,000 through the Victorian Government’s ‘Pick My Park’ program.

The successful projects are:

  • Alan Marshall Reserve, Eltham – $245,000
  • Eucalyptus Road Playground, Eltham – $30,000

Mayor Naomi Joiner said the outcome was a wonderful result for Nillumbik.

“This is a testament to the enthusiasm of our community. Our parks and open spaces play an important role in community wellbeing, providing places for young people to be active, connect with nature and spend time outdoors with family and friends.

“I thank everyone who took the time to vote and support these projects. Your participation has helped make these improvements possible, and we look forward to seeing the projects come to life,” Cr Joiner said.

Swipers Gully Ward Councillor Kate McKay said it was an excellent outcome after a long campaign to get community support for the Nillumbik projects.

“The additional funds for Alan Marshall Reserve will enable Council to deliver an upgraded park and improved recreational opportunities. I can’t wait to get started,” Cr McKay said.

Wingrove Ward Councillor John Dumaresq said the Eucalyptus Road funding will provide a welcome boost to the current playspace.

“We’re looking forward to using the funds to upgrade the playground at Eucalyptus Road for the benefit of Wingrove Ward’s youngest residents,” Cr Dumaresq said.

Nillumbik Shire Council will now work with the Victorian Government and the community to progress the projects, with further details and timelines to be shared as planning and delivery milestones are confirmed.
