ELTHAM, VIC. — Police have charged a 26-year-old Eltham man after a crossbow was allegedly fired at officers in Eltham yesterday afternoon.

Police attended an address in Reynolds Road after reports that a man armed with a crossbow was behaving erratically at a Reynolds Road residential property about 1.40pm.

Police attempted to contact the man but were unsuccessful.

Officers cordoned off the property. It is alleged that the man exited the property from the back door and fired the crossbow at two police officers.

It’s alleged that police drew their firearms and shots were fired at the man, who retreated inside the property.

The man was not physically injured during the exchange, but he surrendered to police a short time later.

The 26-year-old man from Eltham was interviewed by police.

He was charged with multiple offences, including reckless conduct endangering life, assault with a weapon, assault on police and criminal damage.

He will appear at the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court today.

Professional Standards Command has been notified as per normal practice. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
