MELBOURNE, VIC. — Apparently, the way I live my life is not normal. To me, it’s very normal, but when I tell people my day-to-day, run-of-the-mill stories, they generally look at me in disbelief. They lean forward, mouths slightly open, and I can see them thinking: Is this real?
As a well-known Australian comedian, podcaster, actor and radio presenter, Ash Williams was used to juggling the ups and downs of the show business world. So when he was given an opportunity to try his luck at making it big in Hollywood, he jumped at it. After all, what could go wrong?
Very little, or so it seemed at first. Ash was fortunate to land roles in TV shows such as Anger Management (with Martin and Charlie Sheen), The Exes (with Wayne Knight, ‘Newman’ from Seinfeld), and You’re the Worst, and he became a comedy regular at the world-famous Comedy Store.
To the outside world, Ash was not only living the dream but killing it. However, he quickly found that trying to exist in the celebrity world came at a very steep price.
Ash threw himself into survival mode, and his motto for saying yes to the unknown led to often hilarious, unique and sometimes downright dodgy and dangerous jobs. Topless waiter in a gay bar? Tick. Running a race in high heels to break a Guinness World Record? Tick. Appearing in a tickling movie? Tick. Posing as a model for romance book covers? Tick, tick and tick.
Although there were times when Ash sacrificed his integrity, his body and his dignity pursuing his big break in Hollywood, his ability to see the funny side of the pickles he found himself in shines through.
This collection of frequently laugh-out-loud stories is the ideal antidote to today’s often troubled and chaotic times, and is perfect for anyone who appreciates a bit of comic silliness, as well as a fascinating look behind the scenes of Hollywood life.
