Mao Zedong, the founder of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party, died on September 9, 1976 at the age of 82, following a period of ill health.
A few days after the official mourning ceremony on the square in front of the Gate of Heavenly Peace, the gate is still decorated with a black and white picture and a banner as a sign of mourning for Mao Zedong. PHOTO: Karl-Heinz Wellmann/Supplied/Wiki.
