NILLUMBIK SHIRE, VIC. — The community is welcome to join us for a day of outdoor fun on Wednesday, October 28, for Children’s Week. Celebrations will take place at Edendale Community Environment Farm in Eltham.
This year’s theme, ‘Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practice their religion’, shines a light on the importance of childhood and every child’s right to feel safe, heard and celebrated.
Mayor Naomi Joiner said Children’s Week is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of keeping children safe and ensuring they enjoy their childhood.
“With its range of parks, playgrounds, pools, events and the Nillumbik Youth Hub, Nillumbik is a wonderful place to grow up,” Cr Joiner said.
“Children deserve a safe and happy childhood. We all have a role to play in ensuring our corner of the world is a welcoming place for young people.”
Edendale ward councillor Kelly Joy said Edendale Community Environment Farm was the perfect pick for Children’s Week activities.
“We are fortunate to have such an incredible hub for education, exploring and fun right here in the Shire – it’s an ideal backdrop for celebrating children,” Cr Joy said.
Family fun day highlights include art and crafts, the chance to meet Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews and police officers, a tai chi demonstration, sensory-friendly story time, ‘meet the animals’ sessions, and farm tours.
There will also be story time sessions at Diamond Valley and Eltham libraries during Children’s Week, which runs from Saturday, October 24 until Sunday, November 1, 2026.
