HURSTBRIDGE, VIC. — Nillumbik Shire has officially opened the much-anticipated Hurstbridge Community Shed.
The Shed provides a permanent home for the Hurstbridge Shedders.
While awaiting their new facility, the group operated out of a small storage room at Hurstbridge Basketball Stadium. This meant numbers and activities were limited.
With the new facility, the Shedders can now tackle projects both small and large. Current members are rolling up their sleeves and getting the space ready to welcome new members.
The Hurstbridge Community Shed is open to all locals, regardless of gender.
The Shed, which is located behind Allwood House, includes:
- a large, dedicated workshop space
- a breakout area for meetings and informal activities
- practical storage to support Shed activities
- a lift, accessible amenities and accessible parking to ensure everyone can use the facility.
The project was a collaborative effort, with funding from Council ($962,470), the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund ($364,352) and Community Bank Hurstbridge ($100,000).
Mayor Naomi Joiner welcomed the Hurstbridge Shedders to their new home:
“The new shed will be an important space for the local community to connect, share and learn skills and contribute to local projects.”
