WHITTLESEA CITY COUNCIL, VIC. — Whittlesea’s Home Energy Program has launched, helping local households reduce energy costs and make informed choices about energy use.
The program provides practical advice to help residents create more energy-efficient homes and start to take the first steps toward electrifying their homes.
“The Home Energy Program is a great way to chat face-to-face with energy experts and feel empowered to make the switch to electric,” Whittlesea Mayor, Cr Lawrie Cox, said.
If you’ve been thinking about switching to electric alternatives or upgrading your home’s energy efficiency but are unsure what to do first, our Home Energy Program is designed to help you understand your options and feel more confident about what could work best for your household budget.
You can also learn more about rebates and discounts that may be available to help lower the cost of your upgrades.
The benefits of improving energy efficiency and switching to all-electric include improving air quality in your home, keeping homes warmer in winter and cooler in summer through better insulation, reducing long-term energy costs and reducing your environmental impact.
“Whether you’re thinking about solar, batteries, insulation or making the switch from gas to electric, it can be difficult to know where to start. The Home Energy Program gives residents the opportunity to find out what could work for their home and household,” Whittlesea Mayor, Cr Lawrie Cox said.
Free events will be held throughout the year, allowing residents to speak with experts and learn practical ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency.
Free home energy assessments will be available soon, with additional support as the program expands. This includes ‘Speed Date’ 20-minute sessions with home energy specialists, information sessions, and a Home Energy Expo where you can hear from experts and discover practical solutions for your home.
This program is an important part of Council’s work to reduce emissions and help create a climate-ready community.
“The program is also an important part of Council’s work to support our community to reduce emissions and reach our target of net zero community emissions by 2036. We’re taking action in our own operations, and we want to support residents to take practical steps that work for them.”
Council is also taking action in its own operations by removing gas from Council buildings, electrifying our vehicle fleet, upgrading appliances and improving building efficiency to lower emissions and operating costs.
