PANTON HILL, VIC. — Congratulations to our Panton Hill Football Netball Club (PHFNC) ‘The Redbacks’ committee and Life Member Travis Beattie, who was recognised at the Banyule Jaga Jaga Community Volunteer Awards.
Travis Beattie was a founding member of VicNews and was the first editorial cartoonist and ‘Duck Malone’ comic strip creator when VicNews was founded by a group of Montmorency Secondary College students in Year 8, 1992.
Mr Beattie was presented with his certificate by Kate Thwaites MP, and Mr Beattie was not only recognised for his over 20 years of volunteer work with the Redbacks, but also for continuous “Cancer For Kids” fundraising in honour of his brother Warwick, who passed away 20 years ago next week.
As Captain of the Watsonia Darts team, Mr Beattie also helps raise money for our sponsor Watsonia RSL through selling Anzac Badges, and is also a courtesy-bus driver for Montmorency RSL.
Mr Beattie, like all the original VicNews team, has been serving the local community since high school.
We congratulate Mr Travis Beattie on being honoured with such an award and look forward to catching up during the upcoming Northern Football Netball League 2026 season, which commences Good Friday.
