Marysville SES crews conducted a high-angle rescue in the Cathedral Ranges State Park over Saturday and Sunday after a hiker sustained an injury.
SES volunteers were called out around 10am Saturday, June 10. Marysville SES responded with three vehicles with additional rope crews from SES Alexandra, Monbulk Fire & Rescue (CFA) and Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV).
Volunteers hiked in with Ambulance Victoria paramedics to assess the patient located on a cliff face near Sugarloaf Peak.
Whilst the SES trekked in Victoria Police set up a control point. Local CFA brigades Marysville and Buxton assisted with carrying extra rope gear to Marysville SES’ technical rescue operators.
Rescuers made the patient safe and warm while medical treatment was arranged.
A roping system was constructed to move the patient to the peak, with an SES member accompanying a stretcher down the rock face.
Once on top, poor weather meant the safest option was for wilderness paramedics to camp out with the patient overnight.
Marysville SES crews hiked back up this morning to assist with winching the patient into the air ambulance.
