GOLDEN SQUARE, VIC. — Emergency services responded to a fatal collision in Bendigo this morning after a truck collided with a 15-year-old pedestrian on High Street just after 8.30am.
A passerby commenced CPR, but the 15-year-old Bendigo boy, on his way to Girton Grammar School, sadly died at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured and is assisting police.
In a letter sent to parents today, Girton Grammar principal Emma O’Rielly confirmed the boy was a senior student at the school and the news of his death was being delivered to students this morning.
“We are devastated by the loss, and share our condolences with the family and friends of the student, and with the entire Girton community,” she told ABC Bendigo.
Ms O’Rielly said students and staff were being offered counselling and parents were asked to make alternative arrangements for school pick-up today.
“We encourage you, where possible, to collect your children from school at the end of the day, even if they would usually walk or catch the bus.”
The exact circumstances of the collision are being determined, with investigations ongoing.
Emergency services are still working at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
No charges have been laid.
