Police have dismantled a sophisticated cannabis crop inside a Mordialloc factory, seizing hundreds of plants worth $2.5 million.
Detectives from Caulfield Divisional Response Unit, with assistance from the Moorabbin Crime Investigation Unit, executed a search warrant at the rental factory on De Havilland Street on Friday, May 16 about 7am.
It followed a public tip-off as Caulfield Divisional Response Unit Sergeant Stuart Burnham explained.
“This investigation started out as a tip-off from a member of the community and has culminated in a significant seizure of cannabis.
“This is a good reminder for landlords to be aware of renters who may be using your property for criminal enterprises and to ensure regular checks are conducted,” Sergeant Stuart Burnham said.
Officers uncovered a well-established hydroponic set-up of cannabis plants in various stages of growth, including seedlings and mature plants ready for harvesting.

“Removing a commercial quantity of drugs before they could be distributed on the street is a win not only for police but for the entire community,” Sergeant Stuart Burnham said.
Around 850 plants were seized, with the large commercial drug quantity having an estimated potential street value of $2.5 million.
Nobody has been arrested. An investigation is ongoing.
