Cockatoo hit-run turns fatal

COCKATOO, VIC. — A man has died following a hit-and-run collision in Cockatoo last month.

COCKATOO, VIC. — A man has died following a hit-and-run collision in Cockatoo last month.

Police will allege that a 44-year-old Cockatoo man who was driving a Ford Territory struck a cyclist on Pakenham Road about 3pm on Friday, June 26.

The cyclist, a 47-year-old man of no fixed address, was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He died this morning.

The driver of the Territory allegedly failed to stop at the scene, then dumped the vehicle at a nearby reserve on Hillside Road.

The 44-year-old was arrested on 27 June and at the time was charged with causing serious injury internationally and dangerous driving causing serious injury.The

Homicide Squad are now investigating the matter and will consider whether the charges will be upgraded.

The Cockatoo man was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on September 18.
