Epping’s tribute to player Nathan Fitzgerald

EPPING, VIC. — Supporters yesterday gathered at Epping Football Ground to salute the life of Nathan Fitzgerald, who died the previous week after an accident in a Reserves game the previous weekend at Lalor.

EPPING, VIC. — Supporters yesterday gathered at Epping Football Ground to salute the life of Nathan Fitzgerald, who died the previous week after an accident in a Reserves game the previous weekend at Lalor.

The 27-year-old was also a highly respected teacher at Mernda Central College.

Yesterday’s reserves match between Epping and Heidelberg in the Northern Football Netball League’s Division 3 was cancelled.

A comemorative event was held instead.

Nathan’s jumper, number 34, has been retired.

The AFL also confirmed a minute’s silence will be held before Sunday’s match between Melbourne and Fitzgerald’s favourite team, Richmond.

The Epping reserves team will form a guard of honour as Richmond run through the banner for this afternoon’s match.
