BEAUMARIS, VIC. — Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in Beaumaris overnight.
Police understand that a white Volkswagen sedan was travelling citybound on Beach Road when it left the road and crashed onto the Bay Trail about 12.30am.
One male passenger, a 38-year-old man from Blind Bight, died at the scene.
Another male passenger, a 45-year-old man from Carrum Downs, was transported to hospital with critical injuries.
The driver, a 23-year-old man from Carrum Downs, was arrested at the scene.
He sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard, where he remains.
An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the incident, and police are urging anyone who was driving in the area at the time to check their dashcam.
