Firefighters responded to an incident in Bethany Road, Hoppers Crossing at 4.25pm yesterday after multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reported a building fire.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews, assisted by CFA, arrived within five minutes to find flames issuing from a single-storey brick home.
Firefighters called for extra resources en route due to the amount of smoke sighted from the blaze.
Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, conducted an internal attack on the fire and were successful in preventing the fire from spreading to a neighbouring home that was under threat.
No one was home at the time of the fire and was declared under control at 4:52pm.
The blaze resulted in extensive damage to approximately half of the house and garage, and some minor damage to a neighbouring home.
At total of seven fire trucks and 25 firefighters were committed to the firefight.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but will be investigated.
