Transit police are investigating copper thefts throughout the railway network across Melbourne.
Since the beginning of this year, the offender has stolen copper cables at a number of locations on the Mernda and Hurstbridge lines.
On Friday, March 14, a male arrived at Bell Railway Station in a silver VW hatchback just after 1pm
The man enters the nearby substation, removes large spools of copper cabling and places them in the car’s boot before driving away.
Each incident has caused significant damage, and the cost of the thefts is estimated to exceed $100,000.
The offender is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, aged in his mid-30s and has a solid build.
