FAWKNER, VIC. — Detectives from Taskforce Echo have charged a man overnight following an incident in Fawkner which occurred early Monday morning.
Officers were patrolling in the vicinity of Star Court around 4.10am when they spotted a vehicle allegedly travelling at excessive speed.
Police will allege the vehicle then sped off from police before it was dumped outside a church on Sydney Road.
Officers cordoned off the area and located two firearms that had been discarded.
A Dog Squad unit was called in and located a 36-year-old Sebastopol man hiding in a shed.
The man was transported to hospital under police guard for treatment of pre-existing injuries.
The man, believed to be a patched member of the Finks OMCG, was charged overnight with several offences, including possession of a traffickable quantity of unregistered firearms, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of a handgun and possession of a loaded firearm in a public place, among several other charges.
He will appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
