EPPING, VIC. — Northern Health has partnered with Pacific Epping and Ambulance Victoria to support the global life-saving initiative Restart A Heart Day and Ambulance Victoria’s Shocktober campaign.

Every day about 21 Victorians suffer a cardiac arrest with only 10 surviving, and for every minute cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is delayed, survival decreases by 10 per cent.

As part of Ambulance Victoria’s Shocktober campaign, Restart a Heart Day is on Friday, October 16, between 10am to 3pm and is a part of a global initiative that aims to raise awareness and educate the community about CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Ambulance Victoria metropolitan operations community engagement liaison coordinator Katie Cornelius said Shocktober aims to highlight the importance of learning CPR and how to use an AED.

“We want the community to know that they can make a lifesaving difference by following these simple steps: Call; call triple-0, Push; push hard and fast on the middle of the chest to perform CPR and Shock; use an AED,” she said.

In partnership with Northern Health and Ambulance Victoria, Pacific Epping will host a Restart a Heart Day event at the Pacific Epping connect hub.

The wider community will have the opportunity to learn how to do CPR and use an AED through practical learning, demonstrations and interactive activities.

Pacific Epping operations manager Matthew Vasilevski said Pacific Epping is dedicated to community safety.

“We are committed to creating a safe environment where our retailers, staff and customers feel informed, prepared and supported so we can all play a part in responding effectively when it matters most,” he said.

Northern Health is also hosting concurrent events on Friday, October 16, at Northern Hospital Epping between 10am to 3pm and the Kilmore District Hospital and Broadmeadows Hospital from 10am to noon at the front reception of each hospital.
