CAMPBELLFIELD, VIC. — An unlicensed teen will have some explaining to do after being caught at nearly double the speed limit in Campbellfield yesterday morning.

Fawkner Highway Patrol officers spotted the Mazda 3 travelling along Sydney Road just after 7am on June 21.

The vehicle was detected at an alleged speed of 157km/h in a 80km/h zone.

Officers intercepted the car and spoke with the driver, who allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test before refusing to accompany officers for an evidentiary test.

The 16-year-old from the Hume area is expected to be charged on summons with speeding, unlicensed driving and refusing to remain for an oral fluid test.

He and his two mates were forced to walk home after the car, which belonged to a family member, was impounded for a period of 30 days for $966.50.
