GLADSTONE PARK, VIC. — Merri-Bek Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two teenage boys following an arson in Gladstone Park yesterday morning.

The Air Wing was patrolling Melbourne’s north-west when it spotted a car on fire near a property on Payne Street about 1.30am.

The vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time, was destroyed.

While surveying the blaze, officers in the Air Wing observed a Toyota Corolla driving at a fast rate of speed along Mickleham Road.

Officers continued to follow the vehicle through Tullamarine, Bulla, Gladstone Park, and Greenvale before stop sticks were successfully deployed on Mickleham Road.

When the vehicle came to a stop on Greenvale Drive, the occupants attempted to flee on foot.

With assistance from the Dog Squad, two 15-year-old boys were arrested in the backyards of properties on Arncliffe Boulevard.

The pair have since been charged with criminal damage by fire, reckless conduct endangering life, theft of a motor vehicle, possess imitation firearm and driving offences.

Both appeared before a children’s court last night.

Police will allege the Toyota was stolen from a property in Lalor on June 26.
