MELBOURNE, VIC. — Police have charged a woman after a head-on collision in Port Melbourne last night.
The 51-year-old Rye woman has been charged with reckless conduct offences, possessing a drug of dependence and various traffic offences.
She has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
Officers were called to reports of a Subaru Outback travelling the wrong way through the Burnley Tunnel about 11.30pm.
The Subaru continued to travel onto the Bolte Bridge before it collided with an oncoming Kia Sorrento, causing the vehicle to crash into a nearby barrier.
The woman and a 60-year-old Rye man were swiftly arrested.
The six occupants of the Kia were not injured.
The vehicle was not stolen.
Investigators are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the Subaru travelling through the Burnley Tunnel or towards the Bolte Bridge, and anyone with vision of the collision.
