DONNYBROOK, VIC. — The City of Whittlesea is calling on the community to add its voice to the campaign for the full upgrade of Donnybrook Road, as rapid population growth continues to put pressure on this vital transport corridor.
Donnybrook Road is operating well beyond its capacity, causing congestion and delays for local commuters and affecting access to employment, education, public transport and essential services.
“For people living in Donnybrook and our growing northern communities, this isn’t just about a road. It’s about getting to work, school, public transport and essential services safely and reliably,” Whittlesea Mayor, Councillor Lawrie Cox, said.
Council is advocating to the Victorian Government to commit to improving Donnybrook Road and delivering the upgrades needed for the growing Donnybrook community.
The campaign builds on Council’s longstanding advocacy for improvements to Donnybrook Road.
Donnybrook Road is one of our four key advocacy priorities for Council in the lead-up to the 2026 Victorian state election, alongside Wollert Rail, an aquatics and leisure facility in Mernda and a dedicated Youth Centre.
Council’s message is simple: infrastructure investment must keep pace with growth.
“Our community is growing rapidly, and the infrastructure people rely on every day needs to keep pace,” Whittlesea Mayor, Councillor Lawrie Cox, said.
The City of Whittlesea has released a new video highlighting why the upgrade to Donnybrook Road is needed and is encouraging residents to watch, share and add their voice to the campaign.
Residents can support the campaign by visiting the Engage Whittlesea page.
