Victoria Police have charged two women after a suspicious package prompted a large emergency response, including the Bomb Response Unit, at a North Geelong business last week.

Police were called to a premises on Mackey Street about 9:40am on Thursday, March 21, following reports that two women inside the building had left a suspicious package.

It’s alleged the pair, believed to be protesters, entered the business and placed a box at reception while chanting and filming.

They were then removed from the premises by staff and left before police arrival.

A safety cordon was established, and the Bomb Response Unit attended to assess the package.

It was later deemed that the package contained no dangerous materials. The scene was declared safe.

Geelong detectives arrested a 52-year-old Grovedale woman and a 61-year-old Geelong West woman as part of the investigation.

Both women were subsequently charged with an ‘intent [to] bomb hoax’ and trespassing.

They have been bailed to appear at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on April 22, 2025.
