Charges follow suspicious fire

CORIO, VIC. — Geelong Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives charged a man following a suspicious fire in Corio on Tuesday, August 11.

CORIO, VIC. — Geelong Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives charged a man following a suspicious fire in Corio on Tuesday, August 11.

Investigators alleged that a man was seen lighting a rubbish pile on fire outside a property on Sharland Road at about 6.10pm.

The fire spread to the house, which sustained extensive damage.

Three occupants inside the property were evacuated safely. There were no injuries.

On Thursday, detectives executed a warrant a property in Corio and arrested a 56-year-old man.

He was charged with several offences, including criminal damage by fire (arson), conduct endangering life, conduct endangering persons and handling stolen goods

The Corio man was bailed to appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 16.
