VICTORIA. — The Fire Danger Period (FDP) will commence at 1am on Monday, November 9, 2026, for the municipalities of Yarriambiak Shire, Gannawarra Shire, Loddon Shire, Campaspe Shire, and Buloke Shire.

Residents are encouraged to use the remaining time before the FDP begins to prepare their properties and complete any planned burn-offs while conditions and regulations allow.

This includes cleaning up dry grass, leaves, and other flammable materials, as well as completing safe private burn-offs while they are still permitted.

CFA North West Region Deputy Chief Officer, Trevor Weston, said now was the time for residents to make sure they were prepared.

“Significant winter rainfall has led to strong grass growth and heavy crop loads across parts of the North West, leaving more vegetation on the landscape than we would typically see at this time of year,” Trevor said.

“Roadside grasses are drying and curing steadily, and we expect curing levels to continue increasing over the coming weeks.

“While there is still some subsoil moisture present in parts of the region, crops and grasses have now largely turned and will continue to dry out, increasing the amount of fuel available to carry fire.

“Now is the time to complete those last-minute clean-up jobs around your property and make sure your bushfire plan is up to date.”

For more information on preparing your property and understanding local fire restrictions, visit  www.cfa.vic.gov.au.

Those conducting burn-offs must notify authorities online at the Fire Permits Victoria website (www.firepermits.vic.gov.au), or by calling 1800 668 511.

By registering your burn-off online, you allow emergency call takers to allocate more of their time to taking calls from people who need emergency assistance immediately.

No burning off is permitted during the FDP without a Permit to Burn, which can be applied for through the Fire Permits Victoria website.
