VIOLET TOWN, VIC. — Benalla Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal collision in Violet Town yesterday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the Hume Freeway near Harry’s Creek Road following a report that a B-double truck was involved in a collision just before 1.30pm.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA), Victoria Police, State Emergency Service (SES), Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV), and Ambulance Victoria responded to the incident.

It is believed the truck collided with a road worker’s truck and then veered across the median strip, where it clipped a car, before it rolled and caught fire.

The driver of the B-double truck, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The driver of the second truck was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Four occupants inside the car were all taken to hospital for observation.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be established.

An investigation is ongoing.
