ST KILDA, VIC. — Police arrested three people following erratic driving and a truck fire in Melbourne’s east, an extended follow through multiple suburbs and a quick dip at St Kilda Beach.

Officers saw a stolen truck and a blue Holden Commodore driving erratically in Heathmont just after 2am.

Both vehicles sped off before Air Wing located them on the Eastlink, near the Burwood Highway exit in Rowville.

Police understand the male driver got out of the truck, set it on fire, then got into the blue Commodore.

Police units on the ground and Air Wing overhead followed the car down to Dandenong, through Narre Warren, back to Springvale then towards Port Phillip Bay.

The Commodore headed to Port Melbourne before turning back towards St Kilda and losing control on Beach Road near Dow Street.

A male and female occupant got out of the car and attempted to flee on foot, but were both arrested nearby.

The man was bitten by a dog during the arrest and was taken to hospital under police guard.

The male driver of the Commodore managed to keep going a short distance before getting out and running onto the beach.

Critical Incident Response Team officers and the Dog Squad located the man, waist-deep in the water.

He was arrested at the scene.

The trio will be interviewed by detectives today.
