Detectives are investigating after over 30 cars were damaged in Kew on Anzac Day.

Boroondara Crime Investigation Unit detectives understand a person drove a yet-to-be-identified older model sedan, with only one working headlight and a covered rear window, to Kew about 5.30am.

They stopped the car in Wishart Street, Hunter Street, Lady Locks Drive, Goldthorns Avenue, Campbell Street, John Street and Rowland Street.

Investigators were told the person exited the car at each location and scratched several cars with a sharp object. The windows of some vehicles were also damaged.

At this stage, the damage is estimated to be over $100,000.
