Police have arrested a man asleep in a stolen vehicle at a McDonald's carpark in the CBD overnight.

Police have arrested a man asleep in a stolen vehicle at a McDonald’s carpark in the CBD overnight.

Officers were notified of a stolen silver Toyota Land Cruiser being driven in Melton about 1.30am on Sunday, July 27.

The four-wheel-drive was followed through the suburbs of Thomastown, Preston, Thornbury, Fairfield, Alphington, Clifton Hill, Fitzroy, Abbotsford and into the CBD.

Police caught up with the vehicle when it stopped at a fast-food restaurant on City Rd, Southbank.

A passenger asleep in the back seat of the vehicle, a 30-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested.

The driver of the vehicle was inside the restaurant at the time. He fled the scene.

The silver Land Cruiser was stolen from a Balaclava address on Sunday, July 20.
