OAKLEIGH, VIC. — Monash Crime Investigation Units (CIU) detectives are investigating a stabbing in Oakleigh last night.
Detectives believe that a group of approximately 12 people were seated outside a business at Eaton Mall when they were approached by a large group of unknown offenders wearing balaclavas about 7.45pm.
At least two of the offenders produced machetes and assaulted an 18-year-old Malvern East man.
He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 16-year-old male was also assaulted but sustained no physical injuries.
The group fled on foot and no arrests have been made at this stage.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, which is being treated as a targeted incident with parties known to one another.
Police will be conducting proactive patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community.
