E-bike rider charged following fatal collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fatal collision in Hastings last month.

Emergency services were called to reports a pedestrian had been struck by an allegedly modified electric bike on Frankston-Flinders Road at 6.40pm on Monday, May 12.

The pedestrian, a 69-year-old Hastings man, was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died.

The bike rider, a 24-year-old Hastings man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

He was interviewed this morning and has been charged with several offences, including dangerous driving causing death, unlicensed driving and using an unregistered motor vehicle.

He will appear before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.
