Fatal crash in Kangaroo Ground

Police are investigating a fatal crash in Kangaroo Ground about 11:50am after reports of a person trapped with a vehicle on its side and "doors caved in."

Police are investigating a fatal crash in Kangaroo Ground about 11:50am after reports of a person trapped with a vehicle on its side and “doors caved in.”

It’s understood the vehicle crashed into a tree on Kangaroo Ground-Warrandyte Road, leaving the victim trapped.

Nillumbik SES Rescue volunteers were called to assist in removing the occupant.

First reports at 11:57am from SES dispatch (two-way radio) indicated that the sole occupant of the vehicle was not breathing and bleeding heavily.

The driver, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be established. The investigation remains ongoing.

Police, fire, ambulance and SES remain on the scene at Kangaroo Ground.

Traffic on Kangaroo Ground-Warrandyte Road may be diverted or delayed.
