This afternoon firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes of receiving a triple zero call for a garage on fire at Clarevale Street, Clayton South at 1:39pm.

The responding Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters quickly requested additional fire trucks (second alarm) whilst the on-scene firefighters entered a smoke-filled home to assist a male and female, both in their nineties, to safety.

A 40-year-old male also suffered smoke inhalation and superficial burns.

All three patients were treated by firefighters for smoke inhalation until the arrival of paramedics. The 40-year-old male was transported to hospital.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within 30 minutes, however extensive fire damage occurred to an 8-metre by 4-metre garage.

The fire was started by unattended cooking.
