BOX HILL SOUTH, VIC. — Eastern Region Crime Squad detectives have arrested and charged two teenagers after their alleged getaway car was damaged by fire in Box Hill South last week.
The pair were arrested yesterday following the execution of two search warrants in the greater Frankston and Kingston areas.
The boys, aged 16 and 17, have each been charged with attempted criminal damage by fire – relating to the vehicle that is alleged they were targeting, two counts of criminal damage by fire – relating to their own vehicle and a parked vehicle, possessing an item with intent to destroy or damage property (Molotov cocktail), theft of motor car and driving offences.
The arrests follow an incident on Duncan Street on Wednesday, September 23, where it is alleged two males attended an address in an attempt to damage property at about 5.10am.
Investigators believe the pair unintentionally set fire to their own vehicle while at the address to cause damage.
Once alight, the vehicle was quickly engulfed before it crashed into a parked car and the occupants fled.
Detectives are treating the incident as targeted.
The teens have been remanded in custody to appear before a children’s court on October 15 and 16.
