RAVENHALL, VIC. — Detectives from the Melton Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) yesterday charged a man with manslaughter following a fatal assault at a workplace, when two men – a then 59-year-old from St Albans and a then 63-year-old from Albion were involved in a dispute at a business premises on Rebecca Drive, Ravenhall, at around 1pm on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Police alleged in court that a physical altercation ensued, before the 63-year-old man struck the 59-year-old with a piece of wood, causing him to fall backwards and strike his head on concrete.
The 59-year-old man was conveyed to hospital with critical injuries, where he later died on August 27.
The 63-year-old man was arrested and interviewed in relation to the assault on August 21. He was released by police with the intent to be charged via summons.
Prosecutors also alleged that the 63-year-old man then left the country, before returning last week.
The now 65-year-old man was arrested at a Sunshine address by detectives from Melton CIU at 9.30am this morning.
He has since been charged with manslaughter.
He appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
