MITCHAM, VIC. — At 4.18am, firefighters responded to an incident on Venice Avenue, Mitcham, after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes to find the single-storey brick house fully involved in fire.
The four occupants were awake at the time of the fire and were able to self-evacuate.
Paramedics from Ambulance Victoria attended to three of the occupants for possible smoke inhalation and treated another for superficial facial burns.
The fire was threatening houses on either side, and firefighters worked hard to effectively protect them from damage.
Victoria Police evacuated nearby properties.
The fire was deemed under control at 5.28am.
The entire house has been damaged by fire and has suffered structural collapse.
Firefighters will be on scene throughout this morning, continuing to extinguish the large fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
FRV’s specialist fire investigators will attending during the day to investigate the cause of the fire.
A Community Advice Warning was issued for smoke in the area.
A total of 11 appliances and approximately 30 firefighters attended this incident.
