Police are appealing for witnesses after a man stole a vehicle with the owner on board in Essendon on December 27, 2024.

It is believed the victim left his Ford sedan unattended in a carport on Fitzgerald Street, Essendon, when an unknown offender got into the vehicle and sped off at about 11am

In an attempt to stop the driver, the 29-year-old male owner jumped into the open boot and screamed out to witnesses for help.

The sedan continued on and was sighted driving on the wrong side of the road through several streets travelling at more than 100km/h over speed humps, while yelling at the victim to get out.

The driver dumped the vehicle and fled on foot and was last seen jumping into a backyard on Guthrie Street, Brunswick West.

No one was injured.

The unknown offender is described as being caucasian in appearance, in his mid-30’s, approximately 180cm tall, with his left hand, left leg and left arm covered in tattoos.
