ABBOTSFORD, VIC. — On Friday, Yarra Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged a 16-year-old boy in relation to a ram raid and fire, causing around $2 million in damages to businesses in Abbotsford last month.
Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a convenience store on Victoria Street on Monday, July 6, at about 4.15am.
Police will allege that unknown offenders drove an allegedly stolen Mazda CX5 into the business before setting the building alight and fleeing the scene on foot.
It is understood multiple businesses were affected by the fire, with the unoccupied convenience store destroyed.
Two women were residing within one of the adjacent businesses and were forced to flee the fire.
On Friday, August 14, detectives executed a warrant at a property in the Moonee Valley area and arrested a 16-year-old boy.
He was charged with arson, reckless conduct endangering life and theft of a motor vehicle. He was remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
