Yarra region detectives yesterday charged a woman with attempted murder following an alleged assault in Fitzroy North.
The victim, a 24-year-old woman, was jogging along Merri Creek Trail when the incident took place near High Street about 10.45am.
Police will allege the victim sustained serious head injuries in the unprovoked attack before passers-by came to her aid.
She was taken to hospital, where she remains with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 29-year-old Richmond woman fled the scene before officers arrested her in the area a short time later.
She was charged with one count of attempted murder and intentionally causing injury, and is scheduled to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
She will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later today.
