In today’s Herald Sun we were very surprised – in fact stunned – to read the opinion column of conservative Murdoch commentator Andrew Bolt.
Mr Bolt is well-known for his staunch conservative views in his opinion columns and on Murdoch’s Sky News’ The Bolt Report.
“We know what having Australia as an ally matters to this US President,” Bolt writes.
“Trump wouldn’t even take our Prime Minister’s calls.
Foreign Minister, Penny Wong said: “… [it] was not the way to treat a friend and partner.”
“What Trump also forgets is what helped make America great are its friends.
“He’s already turned Canada into a virtual enemy,” Bolt says.
As Bolt states, this now presents a challenge for conservatives, such as Trump-loving opposition leader, Peter Dutton.
“For conservatives, there’s a challenge, many almost worship Trump,” Bolt says.
“I like a lot on his ‘war on woke’ … but we now see his plan to Make America Great Again [MAGA] can mean “make Australia poorer, or more in China’s grip.”
“If Trump’s revolution fails, a blind worship of Trump power will taint [Australian] conservatives for a generation,” Bolt said.
When you have lost one of Australia’s most right-wing conservative commentators and a stalwart of Rupert Murdoch’s media outlets, that says much about where Trump – and America – is heading.
Trump doesn’t care about friendly nations with long-term international relationships, all Trump cares about is Trump.
Trump doesn’t even truly care about America, he just cares about Donald Trump. Andrew Bolt thinks such.
“It’s time to be loyal not to Trump, but to ourselves,” Bolt’s column concludes.
Andrew Bolt’s column is published in today’s Herald Sun (13/3/25) on page 23.
