Victoria Police detectives have charged a man overnight after locating firearms and explosives in Churchill.

Victoria Police detectives have charged a man overnight after locating firearms and explosives in Churchill.

Armed Crime Squad detectives secured a search warrant that was executed on Monday, June 22, at a residential property in Churchill.

As part of the search, police located what appeared to be an improvised explosive device.

The area was cordoned off as a precaution. The Bomb Response Unit attended and rendered the device inert.

A 41-year-old Churchill man was charged with prohibited person use firearm, prohibited person possession of two or more firearms, possession of an explosive substance, possession of ammunition and committing an indictable offence while on bail.

He was remanded overnight to appear before the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Wednesday, June 25.

Detectives also seized six assorted firearms, two crossbows, two signal jammers and ammunition.
