Car exceeds 220km/h in Melbourne’s West

KEILOR PARK, VIC. — Police have charged the alleged driver of a speeding vehicle in Melbourne’s northwest last night.

KEILOR PARK, VIC. — Police have charged the alleged driver of a speeding vehicle in Melbourne’s northwest last night.

Brimbank Highway Patrol officers caught sight of a Volkswagen Golf travelling along the Western Ring Road in Keilor Park about 11pm.

The Volkswagen was allegedly spotted at speeds exceeding 220km/h with no headlights on.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle; however, the driver allegedly failed to stop and continued driving while weaving in and out of traffic.

The Air Wing was called to assist as the Volkswagen was followed to Furlong Road in Sunshine, where officers successfully deployed stop sticks.

The 18-year-old Tarneit man was taken into custody and charged with:

  • reckless conduct endangering serious injury;
  • fail to stop at a police direction;
  • exceed speed limit by 45km/h or more;
  • driving at a speed dangerous;
  • driving in a manner dangerous and
  • resisting arrest.

He will appear at the Sunshine Magistrates Court after 10am today.
