Firefighters responded to an incident in Fawkner at 11:19pm last night following multiple triple-zero (000) calls reporting a building fire.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews arrived on scene within seven minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from a business housing a laundromat and Manchester supplies in a 50-metre row of strip shops.

Crews in breathing apparatus attacked the fire with multiple hoselines and an
aerial appliance to quell the flames and protect neighbouring businesses

Firefighters entered an adjoining shop where the fire was starting to extend into.

Occupants of neighbouring residential units were evacuated as a precaution due to the amount of smoke and flames.

No persons were inside the impacted shops. No injuries were reported.

The fire was declared under control at 12:13am, 47 minutes after firefighters
arrived on scene.

The laundromat premises sustained significant damage from the fire spread and smoke, causing damage to a neighbouring shop.

The cause of the fire will be investigated.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene assisting firefighters.
