Firefighters quickly responded to several calls of smoke issuing from a pizza shop in Ashburton this evening.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews arrived at the High Street scene within three minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the rear of the single-storey brick shop, so the response was escalated.

FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began attacking the fire as well as preventing any fire spread to one adjoining property.

All three workers evacuated safely. The fire was deemed under control by 7.20pm.

The cause of the fire was deemed to be a e-bike charging.

Firefighters will remain on scene for some time to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
