Firefighters tackle suspicious boxing gym blaze again

SOUTH MELBOURNE, VIC. — Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters responded to the Rare Breed boxing gym on Montague Street, South Melbourne at 3.13am this morning, following calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting a building fire. Firefighters responded to a suspicious fire about the same time yesterday morning.

SOUTH MELBOURNE, VIC. — Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) firefighters responded to the Rare Breed boxing gym on Montague Street, South Melbourne at 3.13am this morning, following calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting a building fire. Firefighters responded to a suspicious fire about the same time yesterday morning.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within seven minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the Rare Breed boxing gym building and immediately escalated the response.

The cause of the fire is deemed to be suspicious, and it will be investigated by Victoria Police.

It was the second fire at the premises in the last 24 hours.

The incidents are being investigated by Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives.

No arrests have been made.

A police investigation is ongoing.
