More than 30 firefighters responded to a house fire in Heidelberg West overnight.

The fire was reported at 4.36am as Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews arrived at the Southern Road scene within six minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found a 15-metre by 15-metre brick home fully alight, with the fire having entered the roof space of the premises.

Firefighters immediately escalated the response to a third-alarm fire, sending additional appliances and crews – including aerial appliances.

Wearing breathing apparatus (BA), firefighters worked to attack and extinguish the fire.

Unfortunately, at 5.03am, the roof of the property collapsed. All firefighting operations were then conducted externally to ensure the safety of firefighters.

The incident was declared under control at 5.09am.

No people were located at the scene.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and will be investigated by the Arson Squad and Fire Rescue Victoria arson investigators.
