Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad today executed a search warrant at a Dandenong address as part of their investigation into a Truganina fatal house fire in January.
No arrests were made today.
Police supervised by Detective Inspector Chris Murray of the Arson and Explosives Squad seized several mobile phones, which will be forensically analysed.
“We are absolutely determined to provide what closure and justice we can to the family of Katie Tangey, ” DET. INSP. MURRAY SAID.
Today’s search follows a public appeal for information and an information caravan held on Dover Street, Truganina in April.
Anonymous reports to Crime Stoppers police provided information, including a particular call where a name was given of a pseudonym or nickname.
Investigators urge this caller to make further contact and provide additional information.
Arson and Explosives Squad detectives have been working closely with Taskforce Lunar after confirming in February that Victoria Police believes that this arson attack was likely linked to the illicit tobacco dispute.
“We know this is solvable, and we know we are getting closer. If you know absolutely anything, I cannot implore you enough to find it in yourself to do the right thing and come forward,” Det. Insp. Murray said.
Information received suggests it was a targeted attack at the wrong address.
Investigators know Katie Tangey was completely innocent and had nothing to do with the illicit tobacco trade.
