Investigation into firearms manufacturing

SUNSHINE, VIC. — Illicit Firearms Squad detectives yesterday charged a 51-year-old Sunshine man after locating six firearms and imitation firearms, ammunition, various items for the manufacture of firearms, drugs of dependence and a machete.

SUNSHINE, VIC. — Illicit Firearms Squad detectives yesterday charged a 51-year-old Sunshine man after locating six firearms and imitation firearms, ammunition, various items for the manufacture of firearms, drugs of dependence and a machete.

With the assistance of the VIPER Taskforce, two search warrants were executed yesterday morning (Thursday, 11 June) at residential addresses in Sunshine.

Investigators seized an array of items, including:

• Two commercially made “Cat A” rifles,
• An imitation pistol converted to fire live ammunition,
• A pen pistol,
• Two imitation pistols,
• Various firearm parts, both commercially and privately made,
• A large assortment of various items for the manufacture of firearms (rifling buttons, reamers, steel pipes, springs etc.),
• Schematics and blueprints for the manufacture of firearms,
• A traffickable quantity of methylamphetamine,
• Various steroids and testosterone, and
• A machete.

The 51-year-old Sunshine man has been charged with:

• Possess a traffickable quantity of firearms,
• (Being a) prohibited person possesses a firearm,
• Manufacture firearm,
• Possess parts and equipment for the manufacture of firearms,
• Prohibited person possess imitation firearm, and
• Traffick and possess methylamphetamine.

The man appeared before the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
