A 20-year-old Endeavour Hills man’s motorcycle has been impounded after he was allegedly caught standing up on his motorcycle whilst riding through traffic in Endeavour Hills yesterday.

The rider was initially observed by Highway Patrol officers allegedly pulling a wheel stand on Heatherton Road just after midday.

It is alleged the rider then stood up on the motorcycle without holding on to the handlebars.

Officers conducted checks to reveal the motorbike was unregistered and intercepted the rider.

The man allegedly produced his learner’s permit and showed the officers where he displayed his L plate. Under the rear seat.

Police conducted a preliminary oral fluid test, which allegedly indicated a positive result.

To top it all off, the rider was wearing only a singlet and tracksuit pants, however, he did manage to remember his helmet.

The bike was impounded for 30 days for $1091.90.

The 20-year-old Endeavour Hills man is expected to be charged with driving while exceeding the prescribed concentration of drugs, improper use of a vehicle, failure to have full control, use of an unregistered motorcycle and other learner permit-related offences.

Motorcyclists continue to be over-represented in road trauma, with 17 rider fatalities on Victorian roads so far this year.

Excessive or inappropriate speed continues to be one of the major factors in fatal collisions involving motorcyclists.
