ST ALBANS, VIC. — Firefighters responded to several Triple Zero (000) calls reporting a house fire in St Albans.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of a single-storey brick house, so the response was escalated.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus searched the property and confirmed no one was inside.
The fire was deemed under control at 12.00pm yesterday, 40 minutes after FRV crews arrived.
The entire house sustained significant damage and will be assessed by the local council building surveyor for the safety of the structure.
Safety procedures were implemented due to the presence of asbestos in the house.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it will be investigated.
Firefighters remained on scene for some time to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria assisted FRV.
